A structure analysis on the Fe-Ge intermetallic compound system

Abstract
The Fe_(2-x) Ge(0¡Â X ¡Â 0.32) intermetallic compound, fabricated by the melting method, have been studied by the X-ray diffraction in order to investigate the crystal structure. Iron atoms are located at all three sites, 2(a), 2(d) and 2(c) of the B8_(2) type structure. From the disagreement factor of the X-ray peak intensity, it is found that the iron atoms are located mainly at 2(a) site and Ge atoms are at 2(c) site and the lattice parameters of the B8©ü type structurre are a_(o)=3.994569¡­4.05824 ¡Ê and c_(o)=4.990562¡­5.037881 ¡Ê. And we conclude that the vacancies are randomly distributed in the unit cell.
